Position Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of custom Lincoln Electric Automation equipment. This role is ideal for a motivated graduate or early-career professional who thrives in a hands-on, collaborative environment and is eager to grow within a world-class engineering team.

Join a team that designs and builds some of the most advanced robotic welding and automation systems in the world.

Position Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of assigned tasks to meet aggressive project schedules and budgets (labor hours and material costs).
  • Create small-scale mechanical layouts, 3D models, and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Verify that every design fully complies with the customer purchase order, quoted scope, and internal specifications.
  • Update design packages to reflect “as-built” configurations for critical components and ensure accurate records for future service and spares.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of digital service manuals and ISO-compliant documentation.
  • Occasionally assist with equipment installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting at customer sites (domestic travel <10%).
  • Work under the guidance of senior designers or project engineers while progressively taking on more independence.
  • Participate in cross-functional assignments (2–4 months) in manufacturing, service, or applications engineering to broaden company knowledge.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and special projects that align with strategic company goals.

Essential Skills and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferred (other packages such as Inventor or Creo considered).
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (co-op, internship, or academic projects involving machine design are highly valued).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, specifications, and weldment/fabrication details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail, time-management skills, and a proactive “get-it-done” attitude.
  • Alignment with Lincoln Electric’s core values: Trust, Respect, Integrity, Customer Focus, and Innovation.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

  • Exposure to automation, robotic welding systems, material handling equipment, or structural steel design.
  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems, machined components, or sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault).
  • Experience creating or maintaining bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change notices (ECNs).

What We Offer

  • Direct mentorship from senior engineers and clear path for rapid professional growth.
  • Real responsibility from day one on multimillion-dollar automation projects for Fortune 500 customers.
  • Comprehensive training in SolidWorks, company standards, and industry best practices.
