Job Description


Summary/objective


The Psychology faculty member will be an essential part of the Department of Social Sciences, contributing to academic excellence, student development, and community engagement within the psychology program. The candidate for this position is expected to teach a diverse range of courses across the undergraduate curricula. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities include 12 credit hours per semester. Areas of teaching responsibility include, but are not limited to, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Statistics, Theories and Learning, Personality Theories, Abnormal Psychology, Research Methods, and Counseling Techniques. The psychology faculty member will report to the Department Chair. Additional responsibilities include online course instruction, advising students, serving on committees, participating in program development and assessment, contributing to recruitment and retention efforts, and providing service to the department, university, and community. Faculty must also hold eight (8) office hours per week to support students effectively.

1. Teach and Mentor: Develop and deliver high-quality courses in criminal justice, criminology, and related fields; advise and mentor diverse student populations.


2. Research and Scholarship: Conduct original research in criminology, criminal justice, and related areas, producing peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding.


3. Program Development: Collaborate with faculty to design and implement innovative curriculum and experiential learning opportunities that reflect contemporary issues in criminal justice.


4. Community Engagement: Partner with local law enforcement, community organizations, and stakeholders to address urban crime challenges and promote data-driven justice initiatives.


5. Assessment and Administration: Evaluate student performance, contribute to program accreditation efforts, and participate in department and university governance.


6. Diversity and Inclusion: Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of historically underrepresented populations.


7. Other Duties as Assigned: Support the department's evolving needs and strategic goals through collaboration and adaptability.

Required education and experience
•A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
•Five or more years of progressively responsible higher education experience working effectively and collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, administration, governing boards, and external agencies (or their equivalents in other employment settings or direct clinical services).
•Experience in-person and online course delivery using multiple learning management systems is required.
•Evidence of experience building relationships and working closely with other senior executive leaders, faculty, staff, board members, and community representatives (or their equivalents in other employment settings).
•The ability to work effectively in a very collaborative executive leadership environment) is required.
•The level of appointment is dependent on relevant experience.

Preferred education and experience
•A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field; A.B.D. Candidates may be considered if all requirements for the Ph.D. are completed within one year of appointment. A J.D. only will not meet the minimum educational requirements for this position.
